Crosstown Cup Game 1, following sweep of WSU

9 November 2012

The Bruins have a crucial set of games this Veteran’s Day weekend with regards to Pac 8 play. Tonight they meet with rival USC for the first time this year, to begin the “Crosstown Cup”, a best of five season series (named after the trophy they compete for) with the USC Trojans, who will host tonight’s game at Ducks Ice in Anaheim, California, at 8:30 PM. Last year, the Bruins jumped to a 2-0 series lead, only to lose the next three and watch the Trojans hoist the storied cup in celebration for the second straight year.

On Saturday and Sunday, the California Golden Bears will travel to LA for a two game set with the Bruins, adding additional to this Veteran’s Day weekend that will have many implications for the Pac 8 standings.

Entering this weekend, the Bruins are carrying a two game winning streak, which is composed of 8-5 and 7-2 wins over the Washington State Cougars, the first two wins of the year for UCLA. In a team that truly believes that the talent is there to make a legitimate run for a Pac 8 Championship, the two wins were encouraging signs that the team’s chemistry is coming along.

Also of note: Crosstown Cup Game Two will be hosted by UCLA at the LA Kings Valley Ice Center in Panorama City on November 16th, at 8:30 PM. Some of the early adversity faced by the Bruins, before the wins versus Washington State, included 20-2 and 12-0 losses to the Utah Skatin’ Utes, a true wake-up call and rallying point for the team.
