Bruins improving despite loss, open Pac-8 play tomorrow night
About a week has passed since the UCLA Bruins’ second game of the season, in which they faced the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The game featured multiple first period gaffs that left UCLA down 3-0 to start. The improved play in the 2nd and 3rd – signs that the team is beginning to gel and therefore play better team hockey – was not enough to close the gap, as the game ended in a 5-0 shutout.
Despite the loss and the frustration displayed by the Bruins in the 3rd period, a couple of days off in order to center themselves, as well as a good practice last night has the team going into their next set of games with optimism.
This next set, being a trip to Oregon to face the Ducks tomorrow and Saturday night, has excitement and focus levels high, as it opens official Pac-8 conference play. A pair of wins for the Bruins this weekend would be, undoubtedly, the ideal start to a season that many hope will include a second straight Pac-8 playoff bid.
