3 Bruins Named All-Stars as PAC 8 Season Draws to a Close
Junior forward, Michael Carder (Huntington Beach, CA), Junior Goaltender, Al Ricciardeli (Boston, MA) and Freshman forward, Doo Soo Kim (Los Angeles, CA) were all named to the All PAC 8 Conference All-Star team this past weekend in Seattle, Washington. The trio were honored following the PAC 8 Championship game, won for the 2nd consecutive year by the University of Washington Huskies over the UTAH Skatin Utes by a 2-0 score.
It was a tale of 2 seasons for the Bruins who struggled with the “perfect storm,” of injuries and academic commitments in the second half of the season after posting a perfect 7-0 mark in the first half. The Bruins finished a disappointing 4th in the PAC 8 Tournament as they were missing 7 key players from their first half roster leaving them with only 12 skaters for the event.
Despite the second-half struggles, Bruins Coach Mark Francis, (2nd yr, Fredericton, NB) sees a lot of positives in this season and what the team can look forward to for the 2012-13 campaign.
“While it was frustrating to lose so many players go down in the 2nd half of our season, we are only losing 3 players including Seniors John Lee (Monterrey, CA), Brad Schleder (Chicago, IL) and Andrew Darrin (San Francisco, CA) going into next season. Having such a solid core coming back is always a positive sign and hopefully we’ll land another strong recruiting class that will help us take another big step forward next season.” The Bruins finished at 8-4 in PAC 8 play this season, good for a 4th place finish and a 4 game improvement over the 2010-11 campaign.
